Web hosting reviews can be a good tool in helping you choose a hosting provider, provided that the reviews are honest. However, there are very few honest hosting reviews available. It is hard, but you can spot a trend among most review sites (even the ones that call them selves honest). The trend is that only a certain handful of hosting companies are listed in the top 10 and the reason is simply due to money earned when someone signs up through that review site. Companies like HostGator, GoDaddy, inMotion and iPage that pay huge ($100 + per sign up) are the ones that receive the highest reviews so that you will sign up and they will earn commissions. However these hosting providers may not actually be the best host for your needs. You could end up with lots of downtime or horrible customer service or any number of issues that would make for an unpleasant experience. Now I am in no way saying these are bad companies. However, most review sites would have you believe that they are the best hands down and it is all due to the affiliate commissions these companies pay and not your actual web hosting needs. There are other sites like ours that allow you to leave reviews. However, some of these are affiliate driven sites and if you give a recommended (ie – high paying host) a bad review or try to otherwise speak out, your account for that site will get closed and the review deleted! Why? Your affecting their bottom line. Your going against the grain and giving the host that pays them the most a bad name and that could affect the affiliate commissions the review site webmaster receives.
